Powered by AMP/edu

Our school is powered by the AMP/edu ecosystem — a unified, modern learning platform that strengthens classroom instruction and enhances every student’s learning experience. AMP brings together curriculum, tools, and resources in one cohesive system, helping teachers deliver engaging, consistent instruction and giving students confidence with a well-supported, high-quality education.

Core Subjects & Electives

At Monroe Preparatory Academy, we provide a standards-based curriculum that teaches students skills for college and career readiness. Our curriculum is built on the Ohio Learning Standards (OLS) for English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Electives (Art, Music, Physical Education). Electives at Monroe Preparatory Academy allow students to explore new talents and interests beyond the core curriculum. These experiences build creativity, teamwork, and self-expression.

English Language Arts

Our English Language Arts program builds strong foundations in reading, writing, and communication. Students start with phonics, vocabulary, and grammar, using hands-on and small group activities to strengthen understanding. As they grow, they deepen their analysis of texts and develop clear, confident writing skills. Instruction is tailored to meet each learner’s needs, helping students gain mastery step by step.

Math

In Math, students learn key concepts through a balance of direct instruction, small group work, and real-world problem-solving activities. Lessons help students build number sense, operations fluency, and critical thinking skills. As they progress, students move from basic skills to more complex mathematical reasoning, preparing them for success in higher-level math.

Science

Science comes alive through hands-on experiments, inquiry-based lessons, and STEM exploration in the Makerspace. Students develop skills in observation, experimentation, and problem-solving across life, Earth, and physical sciences. STEM activities encourage innovation and a deeper understanding of how science connects to everyday life.

Social Studies

Students build an understanding of history, geography, civics, and economics through interactive lessons and projects. Lessons encourage critical thinking, cultural awareness, and connections between past and present. By exploring the world around them, students develop important citizenship skills and a sense of their place in the larger community.

Physical Education

Students strengthen physical fitness, coordination, and teamwork through games, skill-building activities, and sportsmanship lessons.

Art

Students develop creativity and artistic skills through hands-on projects that explore different media and techniques.

Music

Through vocal and instrumental practice, students build musical skills, performance confidence, and an appreciation for the arts.

Instructional Model

Our school is built on a strong foundation of high expectations for academic achievement for all students. Our instructional
model has four key components to achieve strong academic results:

Individualized Instruction

Students participate in a variety of learning activities each day that individualize instruction for each subject area. Students receive whole class instruction, small group instruction, and individual instruction with teachers, technology and other curricular tools.

Properly Certified & Licensed Teachers

Our teachers meet the educator qualification requirements outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): Bachelor’s degree, grade-level teaching license/certificate & ability to demonstrate subject area expertise. Our teachers are supported by trainers and participate in continuous, research-based professional development. Our teachers are accountable for student learning and rewarded for high quality performance.

More Time on Task

Our students receive double the instruction in ELA and Math to provide a strong foundation for all learning. Beginning with full-day Kindergarten, our school also follows a longer school day and school year than many other schools.

Short Cycle Assessments

Student knowledge of academic standards is assessed formally and informally in short cycles by each teacher. Our teachers adjust class-level and individual instruction based on student performance in these frequent intervals.
